Sparky Jr.

There are various ways of hacking a Roomba. Someone is giving me one that I want to use instead of shelling out the money for the iCreate Roomba. Is this possible? BTW--I know nothing about Roomba hacking.

Many Roomba models will work. If it has a serial port (either internal or under a small hatch) then it should work the same way as the Create. I'm not a Roomba expert either, but there are a lot of good Roomba hacking sites to help you figure out your specific model. Good luck, and keep the community updated with your progress. Thanks.
Thanks. I will get the Roomba tomorrow and we will see.

Ok My roomba is a series 400 so it does have a serial port. Now I am looking for the best interface. Is there a reason why you guys don't recommend the Create USB Cable for Sparky Junior?

That part looks good. The reason I suggest the Keyspan is to convert the cable included with the Create from from serial to USB (and I already had one onhand). If you're hacking a Roomba instead of a Create, your part makes more sense.

OK, now I understand. Thank you for your advice!

Michael-
Can you add the 4th wheel to the Roomba 400?

The iCreate comes with a 4th wheel for added stability and I was wondering if you have thought about this.
Brian
Brian,

I did think about the 4th wheel adding stability. I ordered this:

http://store.irobot.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2586257&cp=...

I think I can mount it on the Roomba's dust container with a couple of screws.

Thanks for pointing it out! I need all the advice I can get.

Buy the roostick. Google it. It works better with the roombas.

Hey Michael-
Were you able to mount the 4th wheel to the roomba 400?

Thanks.

Yes you can. Depending on how you drill it might break the vacuum. The Create is a lot better especially for larger (heavier) loads. Plus the mount points keep it on!

Please can you make one where you can send custom commands like {136} 9

Thanks!
